So… I am picking up my mother in-law from the airport tonight,  I think that is why, as I sat down to post on our life in China, I remembered the occasion when she visited us in China. She came to be with her daughter for the birth of our first son, Manolo.  Here is the experience …

I do not remember where we were coming from, but we took a taxi. I took the front sit and my mother in-law sat right behind me. I vividly remember how the driver crossed the interjection to turn right, it was a very wide main road we were turning into; it was also a two way road with four lanes. The taxi had to drive over the first two lanes and onto the third lane to head towards our apartment. The thing was that he drove towards that third lane while the oncoming traffic to our left started to drive, this was no biggie, they could see us fine and were coming slow. In the first lane there was a bus which totally blocked our view of the incoming traffic from the second lane (also driving toward us). This move caught me off guard, I was not expecting this. I became concerned over whether there would be a car about to pass the bus, which would unavoidably hit us, when, all of a sudden, I hear my mother in-law laughing her head off. She couldn’t stop laughing. At first I didn’t get what about the situation was so funny. After the incident, and when we were out of (potential) danger, I asked why she was laughing at such a breathtaking and dangerous experience, she replied that she was so scared all she could do was laugh uncontrollably!
